This week, I gladly attended an event organized by Canadian Athletes Now Fund and hosted by Mike Wilson (The Ultimate Leafs Fan) and Debbie Letofsky Thuet. They opened their house (and therefore their basement which is a legit museum of the Toronto Maple Leafs) to people who are supporting Canadian athletes. In collaboration with CAN Fund, they helped raise over $300'000 that are going directly to the athletes. I met some great Canadians (athletes, fan, coaches, supporters) over an amazing dinner (sponsored by Flock).
So, I go there not knowing exactly what the event will be like. I met great people that are supporting fellow Canadians but are complete stranger to them. It was a great opportunity for them and for myself to share our different stories. It completely amazed me how much people were supporting Canadian athletes in need that I had tears coming up just by hearing stories about how Mike and Deb are running events like this and how CAN fund are working like maniacs to help all the athletes around the country.
Then, during the night, they announced that one of the nominated athlete who will receive support from that event was myself: I was speechless. I can't tell you how crucial that kind of support is during the last couple of months leading up to the Games.
Jane Roos, Conrad Leinemann and Meagan Walton (Canadian Athletes Now Fund): I heard about CAN fund for many years now and the image that I had in mind knowing you are helping so many athletes in Canada for so many years was that CAN fund was a huge foundation with massive leg power. You guys are running a foundation that has major impact in Canadian Athletes career and success. CAN fund is a strong pillar of Canadian athletes. The three of you are doing such an amazing work that you are creating the effect of a whole army of support all over Canada! Thank you so much for everything you've done!
To all the supporters: Thank you so much for all donations and participation. You are supporting complete stranger with the hope that your help will be useful. To that I say: It is so much more useful that you could ever think of. Olympians are created and medals are won because of your support! You are a huge brick in the wall it takes to reach our goal. Without every brick, we would crush down at the slightest obstacle. Thank you!
